What StrikeBooks Is (and Isn't)

Product overview, tax reporting scope, and legal disclaimers

Important — read before using tax or financial reports

StrikeBooks is not a certified public accounting firm, Enrolled Agent, tax attorney, or legal advisor. We do not prepare, review, or file tax returns. All invoices, summaries, estimates, and worksheets are based on data you enter and are provided for organization and planning only. You are solely responsible for verifying accuracy and for all tax filings with a qualified professional.

This page describes how StrikeBooks works today. Have a qualified attorney review before relying on it as binding legal language.

What StrikeBooks does

StrikeBooks is built for event, AV, and film production freelancers who need accurate invoicing and a clear picture of their business finances.

  1. Job billing & invoicing — Track jobs day-by-day with union-style labor math — overtime, double time, short turnaround, premiums, per diem, and mileage on invoices. Generate professional PDF invoices and estimates.
  2. Clients, rate cards & gear — Save client details, reusable rate cards, and Gear Locker inventory for rental line items on invoices.
  3. Time clock — Log hours from any device; entries can flow into job billing.
  4. Financial tracking — Record income and expenses (Transactions), link bank activity, log business mileage, and attach receipts.
  5. Reports for you and your CPA — P&L summaries, quarterly federal tax planning estimates, a downloadable Tax Summary for your CPA, and a Schedule C planning worksheet — all derived from your ledger.
  6. Schedule C–aligned categories — Expense categories and subcategories are organized to map toward Schedule C lines, including asset purchases you flag for depreciation review.

What StrikeBooks does not do

StrikeBooks helps you stay organized. It does not replace professional tax preparation, legal counsel, or payroll services.

  • Prepare, review, sign, or e-file federal, state, or local tax returns
  • Provide tax, legal, or accounting advice
  • Calculate depreciation schedules, Section 179 elections, bonus depreciation, or Form 4562
  • Issue Form 1099-NEC or run employee payroll
  • Guarantee that tax estimates match what you will owe or that categories are deductible in your situation
  • Automatically connect to banks for live sync (imports are manual/CSV-based where available)
  • Track capital assets in Gear Locker — that module is for rental inventory billed on jobs, not fixed-asset registers

How reports relate to your CPA

  1. Profit & Loss — Cash-basis snapshot of income and expenses for the selected year. Useful for knowing where the business stands.
  2. Taxes tab (quarterly planning) — Federal estimate planning using your tax profile, business net income, and synced IRS tables when available. Link estimated tax payments from Transactions to quarters manually. Estimates are for planning only — not a filing.
  3. Tax Summary (CPA export) — Year-end summary of income, deductions by category, vehicle and home workspace methods, asset purchases flagged for depreciation, and linked federal estimated payments. Not a filed tax return.
  4. Schedule C worksheet — Rolls expenses into Schedule C–style lines for reference. Not an official IRS form and not a substitute for professional tax software.
  5. Asset purchases (computers, equipment, etc.) — When you buy equipment over your de minimis threshold, categorize the transaction under Depreciation / Section 179 (e.g., Computers asset). StrikeBooks records the purchase and lists it for your CPA. Your preparer calculates depreciation or Section 179 at filing time.

Your responsibilities

  • Verify every invoice line item, rate, and total before sending to clients
  • Categorize transactions accurately; uncategorized expenses show zero deductible on the Tax Summary
  • Confirm vehicle method (standard mileage vs. actual), home office eligibility, and deduction treatment with your CPA
  • Review all reports with a qualified tax professional before filing
  • Keep supporting receipts and documentation outside StrikeBooks as required by law
